POSITION: Summer Student Reading Club Coordinator
DESCRIPTION:
The Weyburn Public Library Branch is looking for a student in the field of education (Early Childhood Education or related field) in order to coordinate the TD Bank Summer Reading Program (SRP) for 2024. The student will work closely with the Children's Programmer and will be responsible for the day-to-day planning and coordination of the annual TD Summer Reading Program whose purpose is to promote literacy to Weyburn and area students aged 5-12 during the summer months. The selected student will be working from June 3rd to August 23rd and will be paid $16.50 per hour.
HOURS PER WEEK: 35 hours per week
Salary: $16.50
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A post-secondary student studying education, early childhood education or another related field.
- A desire to gain experience in the field of education.
- Desire to help children explore the wonderful world of reading
- Capable of both organizing and running regular Children's Summer Reading programming.
- Comfortable engaging and building partnerships with local community groups
- Strong technology skills in order to provide a variety of virtual programming options.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to work as a team player
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Enjoy working with youngsters from 5-12 years old
- Ability to work within a budget
- Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
- Actively promote the WPL Summer Reading Program throughout the community
- Work with the Children's Programmer to design and implement a successful Summer Reading Program
- Meet with various library staff members as a team when needed
- Implement and run literacy, craft, and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) activities for ages 5-12 (set-up, clean up etc.)
- Help with outreach and encourage partnerships with various community groups
- Keep accurate statistics for all Summer Reading Programming
- Other duties as required

POSITION: Part-time Public Service Clerk
DESCRIPTION:
This is a part-time position where employees working at city branches provide library services directly to the public and perform a variety of tasks to support that activity. They report to the Branch Manager or designate. The emphasis of this position is serving the public in person, on the telephone or via other electronic means. Employees of this class operate a wide range of office and computer equipment including devices found in automated library environments and assist the public in the use of this equipment . They will also assist in the delivery of library programs. They interact with the public, make independent judgments and display initiative. They are expected to refer unusual or difficult problems to their supervisor of designate.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
Serve the public by registering patrons, checking materials in and out, shelving books, and interacting with patrons to determine their needs.
Assist patrons with basic reference service and perform routine computer searches and other research as required.
Assist patrons in the use of library equipment.
Contact patrons about overdue materials and the availability of library materials.
Enter data, records and text into the computer(s) and provide clerical support as assigned.
Process resources being shared between library branches and Headquarters.
Assist with the preparation and delivery of library programs as well as other outreach services.
Handle incoming money and issue receipts as required.
Follow all current library policies and procedures.
Other duties as assigned by the supervisor or designate.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of Grade XII; keyboarding speed of 30 wpm; strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills; functional literacy skills along with demonstrated verbal/ written communication skills, and computer skills; an active reader who can assist library users in selecting materials to meet their needs; demonstrated ability to operate office equipment including computers; ability to work independently and as part of a team; ability to display judgment and tact in working with the public; availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends; possession of a valid driver license; physical fitness allowing the lifting and moving of boxes of library materials ( up to 20kg). Library experience is an assist.
